Servicey!

I think you’d impress her more if you didn’t pronounce Ayn Rand at all.

As a conservator, I've been fascinated by the pigment change arguments, and all I keep wildly flailing at my laptop is that it's lead white thats the common factor, and her white ermine mantle is pristine! If the pigment on her face and hands had oxidized/darkened/corroded, then huge segments of the rest of the figure would have too, because most of those other colors were lightened with lead! And I love learning from your blog, I am amazed by your links and citations. You are doing great work.

Thank you. I’ve posted examples of what it *actually* looks like when white lead reacts with continuous sulfur exposure:

Which looks nothing like intentionally brown or black painted skin. Even other kinds of “Darkening” chemical reactions from age or exposure to chemicals looks completely different than intentionally painted brown or black skin:

Notice there ARE no white areas left, except for portions where the wall has actually been eaten away and fallen off due to the corrosive reactions.

And again, thank you. It’s really affirming to have conservators chime in with their awesome knowledge.
